819676 2009-10-12 04:23:00 So they connected me this afternoon.

I did a few traceroutes / pings prior to switching, then two hours later on Telecom BigTime.

Attached file: ping_tr_1.jpg (www.imagef1.net.nz) (12 KB)

It's actually a .zip so rename it first.

Make of it what you will, but I wanna call them tomorrow and give them some grief over *pings*! They should *not* be managed / throttled ..
Initial pingtest results:
www.pingtest.net
www.pingtest.net

Fail Telecom!

Note: tcd = Telecom Daytime, I'll do some more at like 7AM tomorrow prior to when the traffic management is supposed to be kicking in...

819677 2009-10-12 04:30:00 Those pings aren't too bad to be honest for a traffic managed plan that is primarily subscribed by heavy P2P users. somebody (208)
819678 2009-10-12 05:30:00 I have just bitten thebullet and signed up, change over on friday.

819679 2009-10-12 05:46:00 68 ms is bad? Here I was thinking my 94 ms is OK!!! qazwsxokmijn (102)
819680 2009-10-12 06:05:00 Im now getting 40ms to DotALAN (My VPN service)

Previously was getting 18-20ms
My boss just down the road on a normal Telecom Adventure plan was getting 9ms at the same time..

It's not bad *too* bad, but the packet loss is a worry

819681 2009-10-12 08:21:00 Well, did some gaming, solid as usual, though I've got some uber QoS at my end too.. no major spikes / packet loss on Warcraft III ports, same for the PPTP VPN port, so I'm happy for now! :D Chilling_Silence (9)
819682 2009-10-12 17:44:00 Figures, *zero* packet loss during the morning prior to "Traffic Management" kicking in ...

Its quite easy to see where the packets are going missing. Might call Telecom today and see if they're able to improve things ;)

Other than that, everythings fine, browsing still "feels" the same (Using OpenDNS), my QoS still works well (Though I had to drop its speed down just a tad).
Note: All tests were done with QoS turned *off* at my end, and I kept a sharp eye on the realtime bandwidth graph to make sure nothing else was interfering.

Edit: This mornings Pingtest results I forgot to include:

Why do you use OpenDNS?

I use it because its more reliable IMO(and the web filtering pretty good too)

But don't you then miss out on Telecom's high speed local cache?
