693700 2008-07-31 08:25:00 comon, I've had people go from blurry K9's to 30+ flatscreens and still reckon the k9 had a better pic !
same thing with audio, had plenty with speakers hooked up wrong etc and the people don't notice.

from experience people have no idea what quality is until they are taught what to look for.
Did you know Philips have brought back the K9?

Expensive for what it is. Wonder if it will end up at the bottom of Consumer's reliability stats in two years time..

Ken

Dont where you went, but HN in Hastings had HD demo's running on both 720 & 1080p when I bought my 720p

693707 2008-09-30 21:40:00 True HD is great, believe it..

We recently bought a Sony KDL46W4000 lcd. The reasons for this were primarily power cunsumption being less than a plasma and a lower screen reflection from the lcd compared to plasma. Although there are some issues with 'smudging' etc we are very happy with our choice.

Most stores will have the demo units set to vivd or similar to give a very bright appearance to compensate for store lighting conditions.
The best advice I can give is to take in a dvd that you are familiar with and ask them to play it for you. Also ask them for the remote and have a play with the different settings to see how easy each model or brand is to use. You may find some resistance to this but if they want to sell....

PCTEK and others are correct in saying - crap in, crap out.
Good HD transmission is great to watch and SD will look crappy.

Have a look at this local forum http://www.audionz.co.nz/ some good comments on various brands here.

Ultimately each persons visual experience is different. Some are happy whave difficulty with blues, greens, browns and grey so my wife and I see things vastly different to each other. I tell people to look for our brown house when she says no, it's green, consequently when she is away I set the tv to suit me.

It is a bit like choosing hifi equipment, some people just can't hear the difference between a Prolab and audiophile quality gear.

Look, and buy the set that looks the best to you or you can adjust to suit you. The store settings may not look good when in fact you may very well set it up differently at home and be very happy.

Good luck

693708 2008-09-30 22:34:00 Yeah but Sony always look better, so it isn't a problem! :D

Seriously though, the only LCD TV that comes close to Sony is Samsung.

Meh, the only reason to get a LCD TV is if its smaller than 42", otherwise get Plasma. I have yet to see (apart from Sony Brava) a LCD image as good as Plasma.

Oh, and Harvey Norman in Hastings had HD content running on their TV's

693709 2008-10-01 03:36:00 Please note if you buy a TV with Freeview built in you wont be able to record Freeview unless you have the TV going, buy a seprate Freeview HD decoder.
Cheers
