   Petrol / Diesel - still a belt slipping?

Only thing about it being a Diesel is the tachometer is probably driven off the back of the alternator. :sleep

692982 2008-07-28 07:32:00 what year is the car ?

often if its a powersteer/alt belt it will squel more when you turn the steeering wheel or when you turn the air con on.

however there are a few other things it can be. if they have a cambelt it can be the idler bearing going. replace ASAP !
also the crank pully can come loose (common thing with diesels) which will give similar sound. also it can sometimes squel more when turning the steer wheel.
if the motor as an idler pully on the belts that also can go casueing a squeal.

I think it's either a 95 or 96

It also squeals in reverse, wife says it does it for her and it did it for me today.

Cheers i'll go into the garage at some stage and get them to look at it

I am not a mechanical person, my most major achievement related to cars recently was replacing a tail light bulb and i was tremendously proud of myself after that, I still haven't fixed the broken aerial on the car after being quoted $200 from a repairer, the aerial still works provided i drive in the exact correct direction and don't pass any powerpoles, bumps in the road, hedgehogs other cars or trees, otherwise it fades in and out

692985 2008-07-28 08:45:00 Replacement aerials are about $20 from supercheap, thats a powered one.

I made the mistake of asking the local Ford outlet to replace my aerial when my wagon went in for a service, The bill was just under $200, Just a standard aerial, My guess is it was worth $3.

If you do get in a jam,Throw a squirt of water on the offending belt, or a bit of dirt, She will stop slipping.

You'd be surprised how much time it takes to replace an aerial.

692987 2008-07-28 09:10:00 Uh....No I wouldn't.

And I would expect the person who works on that brand of vehicle to be able to do it in record time compared to my efforts.

Though, It was my fault in that I was well aware that the local Ford dealership is a pack of thieving bastards.

Though in their defence, The quality of their workmanship also sucks.

Oh, and they lie to cover their inadequacy.

Apart from that they are pretty good, If you enjoy being robbed blind.
