819176 2009-10-11 19:24:00 Do you mean you save the Link not the video Chill?

No, I mean go to YouTube, find a video you like.
The URL will be like:
www.youtube.com

Copy that, now go to keepvid.com and paste it in the "bar" up the top.
Click Download :)

No software, no hassle, and it's easy to remember the URL when you're not on your own PC!

819177 2009-10-11 19:53:00 I use Keepvid.com

I think the original poster wants to have the video on his hard drive. Not just a link so he can play it some other time from Youtube.

Keepvid works, but it does not work on every video for some reason.

819178 2009-10-11 22:53:00 Screw any 3rd party programs, just create a 'bookmarklet' (on your bookmarks bar) that you can click to download the currently playing YouTube video, in a nice high quality MP4 file:

javascript:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href='www.youtube.com(isHDAvailable?'22':'18')+'&video_id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t']}Simply click the bookmarlet when the video you want to download is playing and it'll be saved to the hard drive.

+1 to that. Why use keepvid when you can use a bookmarklet?

819179 2009-10-12 02:47:00 Hi B.M.
I use Miro (see my signature under for the link) and find it very good for keeping any YouTube videos. If I can manage to use it okay - then you will not have any trouble either.

819180 2009-10-12 04:07:00 Can't find it snoopy. Do you have to be a member and logged in?

See attached picture, no need to be a member for youtube.

I just had a look at one of my own files that I uploaded (www.youtube.com)

There is no link for download. Maybe they're still in the process or maybe only high quality vids get converted only.

Just had a closer look, I use Firefox, with an addin addons.mozilla.org (Easy YouTube Video Downloader 1.6) this is what adds the download links me thinks..... :)

819184 2009-10-12 06:47:00 Thanks everyone.

Well, I did get what I wanted saved using Orbit but I'm far from familiar with that programme at the moment. Does it work with IE6? Worked with FF.

Snoopy, I still can't find any download facility, see here,

www.imagef1.net.nz

And yes Misty I'll check out Miro and hopefully it will fit into my range of abilities????

Just to clarify things I did want save the whole thing to disk and at the moment I've got it in .flv format which some people can't open. Even those with Vista and new machines. :D

Anyway, you've got me on the right track so I'll persevere. :D

:thanks yet again.

819185 2009-10-12 06:50:00 You wont be able to open it (in flv format). Unless you install a program that can open / play it. Unless you convert it (to another format), that a program thats installed can open Speedy Gonzales (78)
