818928 2009-10-15 06:58:00 So when us poor suckers get our bleeping bills, is it alright for us to pay 4 months
later. when we can be bothered 'polling' our bill?
I think not! If these telcos want our money they should offer a decent service. It's more complex than that. Generally polling is a technique implemented to avoid overload.

818929 2009-10-15 07:01:00 Port resets in my experience generally take about 30 mins to become effective.
That is what Telecom say anyway when they respond to a port reset request

818930 2009-10-15 07:04:00 Well here’s another little twist.

I had to agree to a $200 fee if the fault was at my end!

My response was fair enough, and if the fault isn’t you pay me.

Oh no Sir it doesn’t work like that. Why not, my ISP is confident it isn’t my end.

Hell I’ve been off the air, under desks disconnecting and reconnecting cables and the first time the fault was in the local exchange. Now I’ve just been through the whole routine again.

Stuff Telecom!

818931 2009-10-15 07:33:00 I had an issue like this when I was back home in Karamea.
I was with Slingshot (they weren't much help)
following a Telecom 'Upgrade' to the exchange I had ADSL but not my
phone. Three weeks later I was still arguing with both of them....

I should have broken in to the exchange, set fire to it and then I might have
had my line fixed. This business of Telecom and other telcos playing pass the buck
is just the sort of thing that a real government would fix!!!

Be reasonable BM there is a lot that can go wrong in a DSL network.
If the problem is not with your house wiring it is not going to cost you anything.
At least you have a hard fault so should not be difficult to isolate. It is the intermittent problems that can be the most frustrating for everyone.

I agree Safari, it’s a Hard Fault and shouldn’t be hard to locate.

So why don’t they do just that?

For a start it was a wiring fault in the Exchange (now how could that just happen?) and now I’d wager it’s the same fault revisited.

I rang Kinect again last night but their normal help desk was closed and wound up peaking to some terrorist in Afghanistan. English was his fifth language and he even had a poor understanding of my finest Anglo Saxon.

My local MP can look forward to a call later this morning. ;)

818934 2009-10-15 17:38:00 Try this:
Disconnect *everything* all phones and whatnot, then JUST plug in your router directly (No filter?).

Last time a business I support had this issue it turns out it was a dead filter, it just packed up one morning ...

Done that Chill last week and this week with two modems. Neither Modem could connect from either jack point

I recon that the chances of two modems failing at exactly the same time would be millions to one. Especially given that neither modem worked prior to them fixing a wiring fault on Sunday, then both Modems worked, and now neither do again. Having synchronous faults on two modems must be close to impossible surely? :D

818936 2009-10-15 19:11:00 Fair enough :-/

My family had similar issues with Xnet .. Switched them to Orcon's PLUS network and they're happy as larry ;)

818937 2009-10-16 00:47:00 Well guy’s it’s 21hrs since the port was reset and still nothing.

I’ve been onto Kinect again and after finally getting to Senior Management level I’m told the following.

Yesterday, when Kinect were trying to help, they got an E-Mail from Telecom requesting they desist from making enquiries as telecom reserved a window of 24hrs before a fault is revisited.

Given that the port was reset at 4pm yesterday it will be at least 4pm today before Kinect can enter into further dialogue.

Fair go and the guy that runs this outfit pulls $3m a year I’m told. Just as well he works for Telecon because with service like that he’d never make a cent in Civvie Street.
