693506	2008-07-30 03:04:00	With all the hype we have heard over the past few years about illegal copying and downloading of music and other files, it was interesting to read about the same type of thing happening in early colonial NZ in the 1850s. The book is called, "Piano in the Palour" and it tells of the fact that printed sheet music was scarce and expensive relative to wages, so copying music onto manuscript paper was common. Some people had albums of many pieces copied by hand. Granted, the amount copied in those days may not have run into the millions, but it seems that copying of music, although laborious, was widespread. And bearing in mind that the world population was much smaller than today, the relative amount of copying may have been similar. So it does seem that there is nothing new under the sun.	Roscoe (6288)
