| 692171 | 2008-07-25 21:54:00 | Went out yesterday to install Avast on an elderly friends laptop.While getting the updates on dialup, up popped a message that SP2 had been downloaded and was ready to install! So 2 hours later it finished installing. Must say that he only goes on line to get his emails and straight off again.So decided not to confuse him with another firewall.And turned off downloading of updates ! Told him I could do it here on bb now and then. |

Told him I could do it here on bb now and then. The INSTALL took two hours? What's the name of his processor? Edsel? And how many tubes does it have? I can see a dial-up download being long...but I really wonder what's going on with a system that takes such an inordinate amount of time to INSTALL. Maybe it's time to clear out some cobwebs and spies/trojans and get back to a clean ship. Also seems that SP2 is a long-ago, a far-away-and-done-project for such a modern date. SP3 is out and SP2 shouldda been installed a long... l-o-ong time ago. I bet the poor old soul has a world of hurt in his "e-mail-only" system by now. :blush: NOTE: Yes..I KNOW that some hate SP-of any kind..but we ain't talking about a tech or nerdy-type...just what seems to be a kindly, clean old gent here. |

| 692174 | 2008-07-25 22:31:00 | Depends on how big the windowsupdate file was, I cant remember. When I was on dialup, I downloaded the whole file, that took forever, like 8-10 hrs (maybe longer) |
