819166 2009-10-11 07:43:00 Occasionally I see the odd You Tube video that I would like to save to a folder on my computer.

Are there any recommended programmes or methods of doing this? :thanks

819167 2009-10-11 07:56:00 Orbit Downloader works well - but there are literally hundreds of tools which you can use. somebody (208)
819168 2009-10-11 08:01:00 Screw any 3rd party programs, just create a 'bookmarklet' (on your bookmarks bar) that you can click to download the currently playing YouTube video, in a nice high quality MP4 file:

javascript:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href='www.youtube.com(isHDAvailable?'22':'18')+'&video_id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t']}

Simply click the bookmarlet when the video you want to download is playing and it'll be saved to the hard drive.

Sounds good but how do you do that? :confused:

Does it work on FF & IE? :thanks

819175 2009-10-11 19:12:00 You can also use ant toolbar, an addon for FF. I tried it, last night with 2 free programs (Freez FLV to AVI/Mpeg/WMV converter - it did a better conversion to WMV than Mpeg). And Freez Ipod converter, to convert the video to H.264.

So I can put it on the Ipod. Not too bad for freebies. Just have to try MP4 to WMV now. To see if the vids stay in sync. Other programs I tried were bigger, (and trials) and some of the conversions were out of sync

You type the link that appears on youtube in keepvid, then save it as MP4
