818344 2009-10-09 09:22:00 In the past I was not impressed with Windows 7, but have recently installed a later edition.

I installed it on a PC AMD dual core with Nvidia chipset & 2gb Ram.
Put all my old software in it, some ancient like Dos Professional File, SuperVoice for Windows 3.1 & Calendar for W95. They all work perfectly.

Drivers were found for everything except the Video card. These devices included a 56k Win Modem, 56k USB Modem, USB Sound card.

W7 boots & shuts down very quickly, is nippy, and is very stable.

This is a good one I think!

818345 2009-10-09 11:30:00 Despite blam6's generosity I still haven't gotten round to installing and play with W7!! I probably would just upgrade to W7 if I get some free or cheap upgrade to it though. qazwsxokmijn (102)

Yeah, but only for students in the engineering and compsci departments. I'm in the biological and geography/environment department. :(

That's why I'm going for home premium. I don't need the extra stuff such as XP mode and if I do I'll do it manually as I still have a spare licence

818352 2009-10-10 00:13:00 Home Premium has enough for the *vast* majority of users. Unless you need Bitlocker or XP Mode, stick with Home Premium, you're not missing out on anything ... Chilling_Silence (9)
818353 2009-10-10 00:24:00 I've only run Win 7 RC on a few computers & managed to get the BSOD once (hadn't got one off those in yonks!). Also personnally didn't like the changes from Vista so I've decided to wait until it has been 'out in the wild' for awhile until I change my OS.
- just cautious I suppose
