694096 2008-08-01 06:43:00 ..not really 'techie' enough to be in the F1 threads....

I have an Acer AL1916W 19" and it's all luvely jubbly etc, and it's set to it's maximum and recommended resolution of 1400x900...or similar.

However......when I walk around and look at the screen from a sharp angle....just in from looking at the end, everything looks so much nicer and colous are a lot more defined.

The colour surrounding this box I'm typing in is presently a VERY pale anemic blue...BUT when I look at it from a sharp angle it's almost a browny-grey.

I've just dicked around with the resolutions, which did nothing, so.....

.......any ideas how to get the cool colours and clarity without having to turn the monitor to a stupid angle???

TIA :thanks

694097 2008-08-01 20:55:00 Your Graphics card will have something to do with that as well. But Acer in general IMHO is crap, sorry to let you down so gently. Bantu (52)
694098 2008-08-01 23:19:00  The colours are supposed to look wrong when you view it on an angle!...

You should be able to adjust the colour settings in the monitor itself and/or in the video card settings too. do you have the right colour profile loaded for your monitor?

694101 2008-08-03 21:37:00 It's probably using a TN panel (en.wikipedia.org) which are the cheapest & don't cope well when viewed anything other than straight on.

All LCD's are not good when viewed at extreme angles, but some panels are better than others - TN being the worst (and most common).

694102 2008-08-03 21:53:00 Well.....it's kindof working.

Played around in Display in Control Panel.....mucking around with contrast and gamma settings.

Still room for improvement...... :stare:

694103 2008-08-03 21:57:00 Yeah, I've never been very happy with Acer monitors.

You have probably got it about as good as you're going to, crank that gamma up! :D

694104 2008-08-03 22:51:00 Changing the settings wont be very useful, since if you move your head to a different angle, it will look wrong again.

Not all Acer monitors are bad. The Acer AL2416W and AL2416Ws are good screens, they use S-PVA panels I think.
