820621 2009-10-14 22:57:00 Got a 46" V series 1080p Sony LCD TV, which is plugged in to the PC (running an Asus GTX 260) via a DVI to HDMI cable. I've tried a different HDMI cable and and adapter, the results are identical.

When on VGA from the PC, the TV displays up to 1366*768, and it looks brilliant. Rich and crisp, very easy to look at.

When on HDMI, even running at the same 1366*768 res, the picture is overly sharp, there seems to be almost ghosting on text, and the 'look and feel' of the image is very unnatural and hard to look at. Any video that's not in HD looks a lot worse than on VGA. I can live with that when running at 1920*1080, but at 1366*768 it seems like it should be as good as the VGA. Seen a practically identical setup running, and the exact same thing was going on.

If I plug the HDMI into my 22" 1080p LG monitor, it looks perfect, same as the DVI connection that I normally use.

I feel as though there should be a way around it, but I haven't been able to figure out why the TV does that with the HDMI image. Other HDMI sources (PS3 for example) are perfect at 1080p. It's rather disappointing TBH.

Anyone have any ideas? :D

:thanks

That was my initial thought. It's at 60hz at the moment and won't go any higher without forcing, wonder if that's what's required to get it to behave?

50hz and 60hz look exactly the same, I'm not 100% sure what refresh rate the VGA was running it at, it would be worth checking on that.

Great, thanks. Will try that when I get home. His issue is so identical it's almost comical. Sony and Samsung LCD TVs being so similar also gives me some hope. :D I'll owe you several pints if this works!

820627 2009-10-15 08:21:00 I use hdmi from a pc to the telly. Mines a 40" sony v series but only does 720p (it's a few years old) The picture quality is perfect from the pc. It seems better to watch recorded tv from the pc than live through the tv card. Maybe it's the 1080 & 46 inches, the pc is struggling to keep up. One thing I found is most of the picture adjustments via the tv are greyed out if using hdmi. Phil B (648)
820628 2009-10-15 17:58:00 I had to set the output on the card to 50Hz before the TV was a happy chappy ... Chilling_Silence (9)
820629 2009-10-15 19:09:00 OK, tried a bunch of stuff, no real improvement. 50Hz/60Hz makes no difference. Had a play around with a bunch of picture settings on the TV, and things are a wee bit better, watchable now at least so that's good. I still feel it should be better, will keep looking for an answer.

Thanks.
