WoW only plays after reverting to default settings by removing the WTF, Cache and Interface folders. Changing any of the video settings will make it crash to a black screen anywhere within 10 minutes, seemingly at random. Changing the resolution will guarantee a crash within the first minute of gameplay, which sucks because my native res is 1920*1080 and it looks like **** on anything else.
Sometimes the UI will remain completely functional, and audio will continue responding to ingame actions, but everything else goes black.

Computer restart is required whenever it crashes. Even on default settings a crash like this can happen, but not more than once every couple of hours. I play everything else without a hitch.

halp, thx.

819947 2009-10-12 22:20:00 Maybe because you are playing it on a 64bit OS

819948 2009-10-12 22:47:00 64bit is officially supported, although the game itself will still run at 32.

Would be interesting if it wasnt.

819950 2009-10-12 23:26:00 64 bit maybe supported but windows 7 isnt (forums.worldofwarcraft.com)

Altho, someone here uses it its fine (windows7forums.com)

Untick auto restart, then tell us what the BSOD says. Is it the same as what the site above says? It maybe the drivers youre using

819951 2009-10-13 00:17:00 I'm not getting a BSOD. Just a black screen that cannot be ctrl alt del'd or alt tab'd out of.

The screen will either go completely back with the audio looping, or show just the UI of the game, which btw will remain fully functional and audio will remain responsive as well. Everything else is black tho, and similarly I cannot get out of it without a restart.
The latter type of crash is a lot rarer though.

Any other game I throw at it will be fine, even Aion and D&D Online work perfectly as well (other MMOs)

I just played with maxed settings for about half an hour, by far the longest I've ever lasted by only running critical processes. This is making me rage. I'm not sure if its relevant, but throughout the game I was getting some pretty wild FPS readings, 120 one minute then 24 the next.

btw I've also tried compatibility mode, with no result.

819952 2009-10-13 00:21:00 I'd be looking at the audio too, are there any audio settings that can be changed or turned off? Are the audio drivers fully up to date? wratterus (105)

Running with audio disabled made no difference.
