| 694956 | 2008-08-05 20:23:00 | The US military was developing them 30-40 years ago, but abandoned the project (despite having some semi-working prototypes) due to safety concerns; if something goes wrong, you fall to the ground and die! This is the BIG problem, and why I think the Martin 'Jet' Pack will not sell too many. Maybe it will be useful for the military but otherwise it could just be an expensive toy. Someday there will be an engine failure, a terrible death with resulting media hype, then a government civil aviation ban. A parachute system might work - but only if there is enough altitude for it to deploy. |
