What has that got to do with not receiving mail.
The mail should download into Thunderbird whether that is ticked ot not.

820745 2009-10-15 08:35:00 Not if the box is ticked. It only checks to see if mail is there & gives you the same notification even though the mail is still on the server Phil B (648)

Wrong again Phil
Safari (3993)
820747 2009-10-15 08:48:00 On one PC I have that box unticked, on all my other PCs(windows or linux) it is ticked
and so is 'until I delete them'. On all of them if I 'Get Mail' or just open the program, I receive my new messages. But only my primary PC ends up with all of my E-mails.
Leave on server means that the message is not deleted on the ISPs server
not that you don't receive it! So in my experience Safari is correct on this.

Actually you're right. I meant the auto download messages box. It's caught me out a few times

820749 2009-10-15 19:21:00 Hi Folks

Sorry had to go out. I have checked my settings and they look OK to me but I can't compare them with Netscape as i can't get in to have a look. I must have something wrong. Time to check in with my ISP and see if they can help.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

820750 2009-10-17 08:32:00 Hi Folks

Just a quick update. Had my ISP round for a couple of hours this morning. Couldn't find anything wrong with settings. Reloaded software and tried some other 'tricks'. Nothing worked. Can send email but not receive. Machine doesn't even seem to be connecting to the email server to download. Much head scratching. Conclusion was that there was probably a clash with the firewall or antivirus or between the two (both programs update on a regular basis and the crash might well have coincided with a download). He suggested uninstalling both, testing whether email worked, then reinstalling them one at a time.

Temporary work around was to set up the laptop for mail and that worked fine with Thunderbird. Decided to leave the desktop alone in the meantime as I have a heavy workload at present and can't afford to muck it up. I will leave it until after Christmas and probably reformat the drive. Needs a good clean out anyway.

Thanks for the help.
Michael
