820820 2009-10-15 04:44:00 Hi there,
I am on telecom Adventure 20GB which is not capped and optimised for ADSL2+.
I don't think my area is ADSL2+ but anyway I get these results on speedtest.net
www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net)

www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net)

www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net)

and here is two tests from pingtest.net

www.pingtest.net (http://www.pingtest.net)

www.pingtest.net (http://www.pingtest.net)

Should my ping be lower than 80 in games?
I live north of dunedin

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks

820821 2009-10-15 04:53:00 It's good.

The lower the ping the better. Anything under 150 is playable in CS/whatever FPS.
If you play WOW, you could still play properly into the 500s.

Edit: You're on adsl2. Your connection is about as fast as it will realistically get.

820822 2009-10-27 06:48:00 Okay thanks but now I feel something is still not right.
Before i posted the OP my ping was around 70-80 and then it jumped to around 80-90 and now I load up CSS and all the servers which I was playing before at around 70 ping are all at 120-130. I find it frustrating as this means it is almost unplayable on Australian servers. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?
Thanks

It has dropped back to 70 now im thinking maybe there was just a minor problem on the phone line that has fixed itself

820826 2009-10-28 06:31:00 How do you know he's on ADSL2+?

A few things come to mind:
1) Whats your ping to trademe.co.nz
2) Whats your ping to nzherald.co.nz
3) Download WinMTR and run a Traceroute on both sites, post back the results.

When I play Warcraft III, I don't play with anybody over 100ms ping... Long story short, your connection looks like a typical ADSL1 connection, overloaded at the exchange level. Bear in mind that just because your plan is advertised as "optimized for ADSL2+" doesn't mean you're actually sync'ing with the exchange over ADSL2+.

Hope this helps
