| 820362 | 2009-10-14 04:19:00 | I've been given an old computer and am setting it up for a family who could use a very basic computer I found the drivers from Intel and have two files both with the name historical. Checking on the properties of each, I found one was a Hyper Text Style Sheet and the other was a JScript Script File. Been a few years since I installed an OS and forgot the MB driver until after I had installed W98 Anyway I clicked on the JScript Script File and got an error message from Windows Script Host, the error being "'window' is undefined". I'll probably have to start over, but I have very little idea how these files work. Any help appreciated. |

| 820365 | 2009-10-14 05:26:00 | What you need to do is look at the chipset on the board, find out its number - go to intels site and down load the chipset drivers for that chipset. ( hopefully these links will work) If unsure download the chipset ID here (downloadcenter.intel.com) The audio Click Here (downloadcenter.intel.com) in the search type in BI440ZX, select windows 98 - and it will give you the audio exe file. |

There is virtually no anti-malware for Win98 now and the minute it goes on the net it's doomed. There's tons of cheap, even fairly decent XP PCs all over Trademe. |

Did spend some time IDing the board, and finding the drivers on the Intel site was no picnic, and the only one there(as far as I can see),PDF with the download described specs etc and seems exactly what the board is, but will follow up with your links to double check. Computer will not be connected to the internet, this family cannot afford a phone, mainly for word processing, music etc. |

Just had a look at the manual:nerd: - you know if all else fails :rolleyes: According to that, it has a 82371EB chipset. Windows 98 may actually pickit up OK. But to get the 82+ chipset - simply go here (downloadcenter.intel.com), look for the INF ( 3rd one down) on the page that opens download infinst_enu.zip - run it. If its not correct ( but its the only 82--- I can see) it shouldn't do any harm, or simply will say not compatible. For audio -- easy - go to the last link in my previous post, type in BI440ZX in the search Example (www.imagef1.net.nz) then to the right click search downloads - and its the Third one down (www.imagef1.net.nz). |
