695611 2008-08-07 07:37:00 Hey all,

Does anyone in the Wgtn region have a reliable second hand VCR for sale - available for tomorrow night?? Our one will not record and we want to record some of the Olympics. No good ones on TM.

Alternatively, which type/brand of Hard drive recorder is best?? $500-600 max.

TIA

695612 2008-08-07 09:40:00 Just get a TV Tuner. Cheap and record as much as your HDD will hold. beeswax34 (63)
695613 2008-08-08 00:12:00 OK, we have just bought a Pioneer DVR-550H-S. 160GB. $500 from LV Martin.

Very happy with it, except that... we cannot pick up Prime, at all.

Any ideas?? It shows up fine if we view TV straight through the TV, not through the HD recorder.

695614 2008-08-08 00:24:00 Are you trying to tune the HD recorder to a UHF channel for Prime? PaulD (232)
695615 2008-08-08 00:32:00 Yes - but I'm also interested in why the HD recorder won't pick up Prime at all... jwil1 (65)
695616 2008-08-08 01:22:00 This is a great business opportunity for NZ . Selling used VCRs . We cannot buy VCRs in the US any more . . . not even for the last few months .

"Why not?" you might ask . . .

They all got exchanged for DVDs and you can't buy a VCR any more . We get to "tape" nothin' any more!

Now . . here's my plan . . . . . .

Youse guys send me all your used VCRs for me to sell, and I'll send you all my used copies of WIRED for YOU to sell . It's simple . We'll make a fortune!:clap

Please keep this under your hat . I don't want word of this business idea to get out . . . you know how those Australians are! .

When you're tuning do you have any idea which channel you are at?

Depending on area Prime could be on UHF 46, 46Vert, 60 or 62Vert in Wellington skytv.custhelp.com

Vert means the aerial is on its side.

695618 2008-08-08 03:03:00 I still have 3x VCR's in my cupboards and all in working order. Last year I put a 6-year old Phillips VCR 2-head Nicam Stereo on TradeMe and got $80 for it. Brandnew it was $120. There is still a market out there for old VCR's. silu (9854)

Yes, it record instantly onto a tape that can be reused multiple times, and you can play it on any VCR in the house. You can't do that with a HD player, unless you first convert it to a DVD

695620 2008-08-08 08:36:00 Update:

Have now found Prime, along with Triangle TV, Maori and some random horse racing channel.

What I did was:
I cycled through the UK channel set (all 70!).
Found Prime etc.
Selected Prime to 'Program 5' (channel 5) and the others to 6 and 7.

Done - all working properly!

I'm stoked :D :clap
