821325 2009-10-17 01:12:00 Hi, have a friend who wants a new PC.

Re: the stores like CL, Ascent etc .. which offer reputable service and free courier is great.

My question:
For a non-IT person like that, are there barebone systems that you can add parts as required and are the barebone systems a better deal than choosing individual parts yourself? I guess a package deal may be better an sampling each.

I am just guessing she wants to spend say $1,000 without the screen and she wants to play some reality games - that I assume is like Sims and stuff. That her work colleagues play so she may get into it. No way is she into first person perspective shooting games and stuff or into overlocking and stuff :D

I thought just maybe a DVD-RW, 500GB, a video card (suggest for me), cheap motherboard and a cheap std CPU, cheap case with good powerpack. 4GB, Win7 probably with 32bit. Given her needs.

All in all pretty low end user.
She doesn't know what tech is out there, what the acronyms are .....

She might be a bit well off, so if it is to use a i5 or i7 what are the cost involved with that? Thanks.

Thanks.

821328 2009-10-17 05:38:00 4GB overkill. 2GB is enough. Core i5/i7 is also overkill. Just get her a system based on a Core 2 Duo E5200, 2GB RAM and a 4850. Will come down to significantly less than 1000. qazwsxokmijn (102)

+1 To that.

Add that to a P5Q SE Motherboard.

And tell her to get W7 Home Premium.

PSU=Corsair 450w~

Case=Antec Three Hundred.

821330 2009-10-17 06:26:00 Ok .. thing is that computer parts means nothing to her. Is there an easier way to do this than to matching words and numbers to add to the shopping cart? If there isn't a decent barebone system and add in this video card ... maybe the best would be forward this email to the shop .......

Windows will also need to be installed by the shop as well ......

821332 2009-10-17 08:30:00 Where does she live? If local she can give me the money and I'll build it for her. Makes the whole thing easier. qazwsxokmijn (102)
821333 2009-10-17 08:34:00 She lives in Whakatane. I used to work with her when she was in Welly.

Yeah shop will have to build it and install software for her.
She probably be scared seeing the parts individually packaged so she wants to see a system together from stage one :D
Probably I get get a list for her and she to email the shop.

Cheers
