821019 2009-10-16 01:09:00 Greetings Folks,

I have here a PC,(not mine) Its a very nice PC,However the motherboard SATA ports are dead and it wont recognise the SATA hard drive.

Looking at DSE they have a Raid PCI card with SATA and IDE ports, Does anyone know If I install one of these if it will run the single HArddrive fine (I'm assuming it will) and importantly if the system will be able to boot off it?

XH8269 on DSE

Funny enough a couple of years ago i would have ruthlessly flamed anyone at the mere mention of DSE gear.....:(

821024 2009-10-16 01:33:00 Metla, yes it will work, but you will have to stipulate the add-in card as 1st boot device in BIOS, and you may need to do a repair install on the o/s install depending on what SATA chipset is used on the DSE card compared to the on-board chipset. SolMiester (139)
821025 2009-10-16 01:37:00 Interesting, And filed away for future reference. I did note that there was an option for Boot from Card in the bios which I assume would have instructed it to go through the PCI slots to seek a boot device.

Going to try that adapter/convertor off Tradme first and see how that goes.
