821013 2009-10-16 01:07:00 Hi there !
I have to replace Yista home basic by XP pro upgrade. I also have XP home.
My Pc is Compaq Pressario with 3.4 Ghz and 2 GB Ram.
As a first stap tried to replace Vista with XP home, but the sist don't recognise the previous OS, the Vista. I assume it would recognise older versions of Windows, but not the newer one.

I need it all to run handwriting recognition, but it woulldn't work with Vista home.

Have backed up all the files on the C disk and prepare to wipe it cleen.

So the question is how to remove the Vista and would my computer have all the drives to install MS home, when I install it before installing XP upgrade.

Any ideas?
Thanks

821014 2009-10-16 01:48:00 So you want to replace vista with XP Pro?? You have to reboot put the XP cd in make it the bootdisk in the BIOS . Then boot from it . Then install XP

You'll have to go to the HP site and get the drivers from there for the PC . I would get them before you reformat . Or you wont be able to download / install them later (unless youre using another PC there, with net access) .

What did you back up?? You wont be able to use any of the vista programs (or any other programs you've installed), and put them on XP . They wont work . You'll have to reinstall them after

The problem is that it probably didn't see the hard disk, as it may have been SATA.

You will need to slipstream these using Nlite, or you will need to enable IDE emulation in the BIOS.

If it is recognised, however then you can format the drive direct from the XP CD during the pre installation stages

821017 2009-10-16 02:18:00 Thanks, will give it a thought. I backed up most important files on CD, and the less important on another partition. The appl programs i can reinstall from CDs.

When I put in XP, it started to boot from CD, so did not have to go to BIOS.
But to find the drivers to all sis it a bit putting me off.
I do have another PC and tried to install OEM Home XP, but the sis says that SIF file is corrupted or missing.
CD drivers are ok, Hard drive is empty and ok, XP disk worked ok before and don't have any scratches, it leaves RAMs or the MOBO.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

821018 2009-10-16 02:23:00 You HAVE to go into the BIOS and change the bootdisk to the XP cd. Save settings, then reboot (make sure the XP cd is in the CD-ROM). Then press a key when it tells you to. You cant install XP from within Vista (if this is what you did) Speedy Gonzales (78)
