820967 2009-10-16 05:20:00 I'd try a re-install then, tell it *not* to do Automatic Updates and see how you go :) Chilling_Silence (9)

ok question. first.. if i do a factory restore will it go back to vista?
second.. if not above, then if i reload vista on with an install cd, then would upgrading or something to win7 be better?
third... or should i just clean install win7 again

820969 2009-10-16 05:56:00 The reason I asked Re where you got it from is becasue its not available to the general public yet - but the student along with various other places is.

If the laptop has a recovery partition, doing a factory reinstall will put back what it came with - prob Vista.

IF you put back Vista, then did an upgrade, be prepared for a lonnnggggg wait. There have been reports of an upgrade talking anywhere from 5 - 25 hours.

What I would do is this - reload the factory default - see if the ports work. If they do, then do a clean install of W7 - if the ports then play up again, you will know its not fully compatible with w7.

820970 2009-10-16 06:18:00 ok. so question haha. how to do a factory reinstall? never done one b4 caviliar (15021)
820971 2009-10-16 06:27:00 "Normally" Theres two ways.
1. On start up you press a key combo to start / Enter the recovery partition (assuming it has one) OR you will have been prompted when the PC was first started ( when you got it) to make recovery DVD's.
2. From within the start menu - but if the original OS has been deleted then that wont help.

When you start the PC, it sometimes tells you ( quickly) what keys to press to start a recovery. Other wise you may have to get hold of a Vista DVD and install from that, along with drivers.

When you open W7 - look under "Computer" where the drives are, does it show another smaller drive / partition.

Just had a very quick look back over the posts ??? - IS this a laptop, or PC and if so what brand/ model.

820972 2009-10-16 06:34:00 If you do a factory restore then want to go *back* to Win7, when you pop the disc in, tell it you want a CUSTOM install, not an upgrade. As Wainuitech says, it's been known to take ALL day :D Chilling_Silence (9)

TBH I don't find that there's is anything wrong with that. Its not like you sit there waiting for it all day lol:p
