695991 2008-08-11 11:31:00 DVDs don't last forever either. Your tapes might last longer than their DVD copies. Backup to hdd too. DVD writer drives for PCs are very cheap. GoodHour (12218)
695992 2008-08-11 12:11:00 Theres something about the old vcr, I seem to like watching videos more then dvds for some reason. rob_on_guitar (4196)
695993 2008-08-11 12:16:00 The Poms had video on disc before 1939 ! !
Lacked a bit of quality, also a bit short, but those old 78s were the only truly great medium for the rabid videophile. (Didn't even need "Monster" audio cables either.)

Some DVDs are just copied from a VHS version rather than going back to a higher quality master.

So you are watching VHS quality on a DVD as opposed to VHS quality on a tape.

Why would a tape be preferable. (Luddites excluded from answering :o )

Somehow I doubt that. They would look truly terrible if that was the case. In some cases the master isn't in good condition and they just use it anyway instead of remastering.
