695707 2008-08-08 00:55:00 I see TV1 well be dedicating about 13hrs a day to this event. I well probibly only watch the bits they have in the news at 6.
:)

Quite agree. That's all I will be watching apart from the opening and closing.

Any programmes worth watching on TV1 will, of course, not screen. Too bad about the people not interested in the Olympics.

TV1 have said many times in the past that they are more interested in screening sport and will postpone or cancel programmes to make way for sport, which, of course, is great for the sport nuts, but what about the rest?:(

There was a time when government radio did that. Sport used to override any programmes on the YC stations (now Concert FM) to the detriment of the listeners. Later they used another frequency which, I think, they only switched on when there was a major sporting event to broadcast. What a good idea. Kept everyone happy.

I have often wondered why TVNZ do not have a station dedicated to sport. Thirty years ago there may not have been enough sport to have a station on the air 24/7 but there certainly is now.

Anyone have any influence in that direction?

However, if they took all the Olymics coverage off One and put it on Freeview stations, then I'm sure there would be complaints from people that don't have Freeview yet.

Remember that in addition to coverage on One and Sports Extra, there are two additional stations on Freeview as well providing coverage (I think these are streamed online as well). Hopefully by next Olympics they can put all the coverage on digital.

Still no consolation, either way . Whatever your persuasion .

The other solution may be to have a station that only transmits TV1s programmes when TV1 is broadcasting sport . It can't be that difficult .
