| 695687 | 2008-08-08 06:25:00 | I feel sorry our police really, so many people are commiting crime, yet those who make the laws for the police are so intent on giving crims liberties they are willing to break that police have to be careful every step they take that some hippy pc do gooder doesn't start a protest about force and that cement has feelings too. An uphill battle yes. |

| 695694 | 2008-08-09 11:17:00 | They seem to me to get a perverse pleasure giving out traffic tickets. I was stopped in Parnell for breath analyser test. There were at least 6-8 policemen and yet they have no one to be at crime scene. We can't blame them really. Who wants to handle criminals when they have more rights that the victims? Soon the SFO will also be part of the police force and we are going to have more police handling out traffic tickets and catching drunk drivers than catching criminals or investigating fraud cases. That'w why having a good government is soo sooo important. But in NZ, it's between the devil and the deep blue sea. Sad to say we are going sinking further. We were once OECD's top 3 countries and now we ranked 20 and over. Fast becoming a 3rd world. |

| 695696 | 2008-08-12 09:35:00 | The Police are under resourced, unappreciated, and blamed for the inadequacies of Government policy on policing the country. When I was last living in NZ, Police Traffic patrols were on a target of 32 Infringement notices per 8 hour shift, activity proves the patrols are not slacking - there was a school of thought that the target should be lifted. We have crime in Queensland, but in Brisbane City one feels fairly safe after dark, there is a good police presence on the streets, and all crime is investigated. If one is burgled you don't just get given a Police file number for your insurance claim. Queensland has about the same population as New Zealand, but some 50% more sworn officers. Queensland Police entry standards are high, and there is quite a waiting list of applicants. I have met several ex NZ Police officers serving with the Queensland Police and they say its great, no comparison with the NZ Force. So blame the politicians, not the boys in blue. |
