695387 2008-08-08 03:49:00 Would there be anything wrong by soldering a piece of house fuse wire between the two metal caps. Using the right amperage of course.? BobM (1138)
695388 2008-08-08 03:58:00 I believe that the glass envelope is to protect the consumable from corrosion and moisture, which would render it a different value quickly..usually lower amps.

Either that or they don't want any eyes to get shrapnel in thyem when/if it should blow under normal conditions.

I may be wrong too.

They make beautiful earrings for your girl or wife (other uses in San Francisco), if you tie a piece of string to them so the glass tube can show in the lights.

How about making a miniature Barbie chandelier for her palace in doll-land?

695389 2008-08-08 03:59:00 What amperage would that be, the high current at switch on or the current you want it to blow if there's a fault when its running? PaulD (232)

Went and got the fuse from DSE, Had to look through every single fuse drawer nada zip nothing and then i noticed a couple of random packts sitting on top of the carousel and one of them was the correct one

it will work. used to unsolder the old fuse out of the end caps and solder new fuse wire back inside. easy done and works well.

however very hard to do with any of the slow blow types as they use special fuse wire not the normal hosehold fuse wire.

695392 2008-08-10 11:13:00 I have seen a .22 round used in place of one of those "glass tube" fuses. I am not sure on the rating though. joemac (9739)
