They have to be converted to the correct format first. Winmacguy may know of a free application to convert the videos

696508 2008-08-11 10:36:00 There's one here, its free (www.twins-software.com)

Its in this months Netguide

And another here (http://www.ipod-video-converter.org/)

Which is also free

Thats for windows tho

This is for a Mac (www.xilisoft.com) but its not free.

I dont know what the limitation is

Here's one from Apple themselves (www.apple.com)

696509 2008-08-11 11:28:00 He needs to rip/convert the file using handbrake - it is FREE.
handbrake.fr

Then import the converted file into iTunes and choose "convert for iPhone/iPod" then sync when done. Depending on the file size he rips it to, the bigger the file size the longer it will take to convert it for the iPod.

Rip the file to h.264 (Bluray)

Gave her the software to convert.Converts fine but the video quality pretty bad.

I recommend people not to buy ipods .Why can't itunes just support AVI?

696511 2008-08-11 21:02:00 Well thats depends on how good the AVI (or original) file is.

If its crap, the converted file will be crap.

AVI isnt exactly the best video format to use either

Because .avi is outdated (en.wikipedia.org). Besides, you can download everything off youtube as .mp4 which itunes is happy to import.
