695677 2008-08-07 21:19:00 "Police solved only five of the 53 aggravated robberies of South Auckland shops "

But they are expert in catching motorists who ignore speed limits. And in prosecuting anyone who defends himself and hurts one of the robbers.

695678 2008-08-07 22:29:00 True.

But imagine what they could do if they were resourced properly and didn't have to answer to the pc-brigade.

And their focus was solving crime and not making money for the guvvmint.

695679 2008-08-08 00:18:00 But why don't they put more cops into South Auckland ?

On a ratio basis it does seem understaffed

And just hand everything over, you will be OK.

(you may be dead, but you will be OK)

695680 2008-08-08 00:57:00 I remember reading an article contrasting the attitute towards criminals in NZ compared to the USA.

Bascially an assaliant was shot dead on the spot by a shop owner or security guard. During the court case, the shooter said "He was threatening to kill someone so I took him out".

The article compared this with what would happen in NZ if someone said something like that, that there would be outrage and the shooter would probably get jailed for manslaughter and pay compensation to the dead robbers family. I cant remember the details, I'll try searching for it.

I would think to get on at the top these days, you would need to be PC,hence the rubbish we are served up today.

I note a chap stabbed another to death, for which he gets 15 years, just imagine he has stabbed your wife or whatever and he walks out a free man.
I just don't see the justice.

695682 2008-08-08 00:59:00 With the public's constant bickering about Police, nobody wants to join, which means there aren't enough officers to go around, which means there aren't enough officers for South Auckland, which means more crime... which means people bicker about the police not doing their job... which means... somebody (208)
695683 2008-08-08 01:07:00 The police and the Government can take equal blame for the low opinion Joe Public has of the police force....and politicians for that matter.

I'd imagine most people have noticed how crimes are ignored, yet they have massive resources for writing out tickets.

And if the Police are anything like the teaching profession, new recruits probably choose somewhere other than South Auckland to be posted to...

Teaching used to impose a posting to a specific area, usually rural because rural areas were not seen as a "first choice" place to work, and because teachers were bonded on the basis their education was subsidised.

However to encourage recruitment, this 'imposition' was dropped - I imagine something along the same lines for the Police now too...

695685 2008-08-08 02:52:00 I saw a perfect example of how much the police care about the ordinary tax payer on Wed nite.

Our next door neighbor came over at about 7.30pm with her kids uopset that some one a PI had come to the door to see her husband. She doesn't have one but scared that if she said she wasn't married he may take a swipe at her told him that he was busy and could come to the door. Twe guy said that he had something for him. She said to put it in the letter box and he would get it later. The guy left , didn't put anything into her letterbox and jumped intro a card with about 3 other males in it.

She called the Manukau police while she was at our place bu they weren't the slightest bit interested. We turned on our scanner to the police channel to see if they would get a car to come and have a patrol but all we heard was a APB for cars to go to Mangere and check out a couple who were trying to sell the latest Batman movies on DVD.

Guess it's corporate America first and tax paying NZ citizens next if they can spare the time..
