820877 2009-10-15 09:27:00 I'm looking at build a new PC to replace my aging AMD PC.

The budget is $900 for a new PC box. I would like to still be able to run Windows XP Home on the new PC.

The PC will be used for running flight simulator 2004.

So what would you guys on here suggest in the way of a new PC?

What do you currently have in the way of hardware?

No DVDRW, u can choose cheaper case to reduce cost. If you stretch your budget to $1000 you could upgrade to the AMD 3.0ghz

1st question: No it will not be water cooled after looking at the posts in the thread I created asking about water cooling for PC.

Heres what I currently have:

CPU AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3200+

MotherBoard ASUS M2A-VM Series

RAM Kingston 2gig DDR2 Pc2-5300

Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 80gb 7200 SATA

820882 2009-10-16 06:33:00 Are you using on board graphics or if not what is inserted?

I have not yet looked at the motherboard specs but I will do so later.

820883 2009-10-16 06:40:00 There is a ATI 3650 PCIE 512mb card in at the moment. convair (13650)
820884 2009-10-16 07:04:00 What is your current PSU?

Chances are it won't be enough to handle a new CPU+Graphics, card, so upgrade it to a 500w~ Antec, Corsair or Enermax PSU.

Your motherboard supports AM2+(you may need a BIOS update) so I would recommend this:

Black edition, so throw in a decent cooler(maybe even the stock will do!) and you should be able to reach 3ghz easy

Then throw in 2x2gb of DDR2-800 of GSkill, OCZ, Patriot or Corsair RAM.

Next, throw in a 4890 graphics card.

Then throw in an Intel 80gb SSD-From what I've heard, FSX should benefit greatly from this, althought I am not an expert, so correct me if I am wrong:)

820885 2009-10-16 07:07:00 The power supply is a 350 watt that came with the PC. convair (13650)
820886 2009-10-16 07:09:00 I reckon you got a pretty decent machine at the moment. Maybe you could get a new motherboard and stick an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU in?
Apart from that,
nice rig!
