Excerpt

A top Russian general said Friday that Poland's agreement to accept a U.S. missile interceptor base exposes the ex-communist nation to attack, possibly by nuclear weapons, the Interfax news agency reported.

The statement by Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn is the strongest threat that Russia has issued against the plans to put missile defense elements in former Soviet satellite nations.

Poland and the United States on Thursday signed a deal for Poland to accept a missile interceptor base as part of a system the United States says is aimed at blocking attacks by rogue nations. Moscow, however, feels it is aimed at Russia's missile force.:

697634 2008-08-16 06:27:00 Going by the fact that a no nothing person like me on a tiny little island at the bottom of the world knew before hand this would upset the Ruskies, and can also see this is aimed at the Ruskies, Then I'd imagine its a deliberate move by the USA to bully Russia.

The lesson so many fail to grasp is Don't **** with Russia.

**** backfires, Look at 9/11, look at Iraq, America won't be happy until someone takes the fight to them and defeats them on home soil.

I second that..although a little different slant on 911 - as I believe it's another Pearl Harbor and a giant conspiracy.

Maybe the US is trying a saber-rattle to goad Russia into tipping it's hand and spending money it doesn't have to bankroll another Communist State, thereby having an opportunity to keep the Russian bear in the cage it's stuck in.

It would not be in the "interest" of the US to let Russia go back to it's old Iron Curtain Communist State again.

I have a good friend from Bulgaria, the country that was considered the Crazy Aunt you kept in the attic under Russia's provincial care and management, and they are so upset at having to work for a living that they yearn to return to the communist condition so that they can stand on long lines for free things instead of working for them.

They had the mysterious "State" to blame if they didn't have toilet paper or bread, but since they are now individually responsible for a getting a JOB they can only blame their own laziness if they have nothing.

They wouldn't have to work for a living if they got their golden cow back to suckle. They also don't like to have to blame themselves for anything.

Funny how the lack of a work motive creates necessity, in this case the Bulgarians don't get up until noon every day and they want to not work but only play during their 4-hour day. My friend still has that desire to get up at the crack of noon, and for me the day is already set in motion even before he stirs from his twenty hour nap.

Most of the "States" in the old Russian co-op are ripe for picking again by Russia. "Come home to Mother" is the new image. "I'll take care of you".

697636 2008-08-16 20:04:00 Yes I agree, it is not really good to "provoke" Russia by setting up these missile sites and radar sites.

And it will tend to make Russia feel "hemmed in" which in reality of course they are not, but it will make them and their people feel all alone in the world and hemmed in.

Ignoring that "other" poster . . . . I feel there's something I'm missing here . . . not that I can see all and tell all .

Where's Russia's money to launch this sirt of campaign and if they have $$, where'd they get it . . . China?

I've got a sneaky suspicion that there's another rabbit in the hat here .

PS: Nice to talk to somebody who isn't a flame . . ty .

697639 2008-08-17 03:45:00 Interesting.

But I thought Russia was sitting on billions of dollars worth of diamonds, and billions more of other natural resources?

697640 2008-08-17 03:56:00 Russia is filthy rich at the moment with huge oil and gas sales to the EU.

They could also sell Chelsea FC if they needed some quick cash !
