697612 2008-08-16 02:26:00 Need some tech held with HDTV please. Have had MySky since it was launched and have now ordered the new MySky HDi – thought would check with Panasonic to ensure everything is ok with compatibility and got this reply: “Unfortunately this model is not HDCP compliant as it does not have the required HDMI input connection. It will not work with the Sky HD service.”
OK it is now 4 years old but states “with HD Monitor Input”.
If it has this HD Monitor Input then what HD is it supposed to be able to display?!
Have they made a misleading claim?
Thanks

697615 2008-08-16 03:57:00 Looking at the manual for your TV, it looks like it accepts VGA (from computer) and Component Video inputs. Both of these are capable of displaying HD content. These are analog inputs, and do not have any copy protection on them.
The lovely folks at Sky have decided that they will only let you view a HD picture from their HDi box if it is connected to a HDCP complient input of the TV, which can only be DVI or HDMI - neither of which you have on your TV...

697616 2008-08-16 04:03:00 Also for it to display HD it has to support the 1080p and 1080i formats which I don't think your TV dose.

697617 2008-08-16 04:10:00 According to the manual (panasonic.com.au)

It looks like a normal VGA connection, is it 15 pin?

Or am I looking at the wrong thing?

No, it is because you purchased a TV before HD standards became standard. It is one of the risks with early adoption. You may have to purchase another TV if you want to run HD from a HD Sky box, in 1080p. However you should be able to run HD under freeview I think via a DVI connection, if it doesn't have copy protection.

For a TV to be HD it only has to support 720p. ;)
