What are your thoughts/comments?

697545 2008-08-15 22:48:00 This guy's had his thinking cap on .

He is spot on with this:

There is another major economic issue with the FTTH model . Households have a maximum amount of monthly spend on information and entertainment services . A pity that Telecom and Vodafone don't seem to understand this, especially as regards mobile broadband (which they seem to believe only includes cellphone email and browsing) . . . :groan:

and this:

Can households afford both services delivered over Sky and a new content services over a broadband internet connection? Eventually television is likely to be delivered through the IP network .

It is unlikely that FTTH can be achieved without the television industry being part of the mix .

But he does take the altruistic path, seeming to want the international links upgraded ahead of the 'last mile' .

While I can certainly see the logic of this, there is little benefit (to home consumers) in making international links superfast because then the last mile becomes the bottleneck .

And we'll still be stuck in the 1980's (as much as I liked the hairdo's!) . . .

The fact that the "internet experience" slows down as the schools empty and the number of users spikes upwards shows that the last mile isn't the worst bottleneck for 60-70% of users .

I'd be quite happy with crappy old ADSL if it ran as it should, At the very least I should get what I'm paying for.

Sadly, This is not the case, But I sure as hell won't be spending more money in the future, $40-$50 max.
