822251 2009-10-20 06:24:00 HELP ME !!!
I got home this afternoon, to find my laptop with all the Microsoft Office applications missing icons along with windows live messenger icons missing. I looked into my system restore to see that there has been a windows update downloaded and installed whilst I was away so I i restored my system to how it was before the windows update to no effect. Oh and by the way I am using Windows 7;)

822252 2009-10-20 06:34:00 Try this (www.winhelponline.com).

If that doesnt work you can try a repair installation of the programs via the uninstall programs list.

For Windows Live click "uninstall/change" and then click "repair".

For Office click "change" and then "repair".

822253 2009-10-20 06:41:00 Are the icons on the desktop missing? Or icons in the start menu? Or the actual program itself?

i.e If you go to %programfiles%Microsoft Office\Office12\winword.exe does that open word?

So just to clairify...

Are the icons not displaying in the taskbar when you open the program?

eg. when you open MS Word, the icon showing is corrupt?

822256 2009-10-20 06:46:00 hae blam in answer to your question the icons on the desktop, task bar, and start menu are missing however the programs still work i.e when I click on the icons they still work, and if it helps i am using office 2010 mondo. jrrd1122000 (15356)
822257 2009-10-20 06:48:00 hmmm try reinstalling windows live.

The repair install worked for me when my messenger icon was corrupted.

Probably a wee bit drastic but blam might know how to fix.

Guessing the WU probably stuffed it up.

Sometimes a SR doesn't work. All I can think of here is manually uninstalling the update if its still there from program features, then reinstalling Windows Live and Office 2010 or repairing them.

Alternatively-Right click anything on the start menu>open file location, then create new shortcuts there.'

822259 2009-10-20 07:03:00 Hmm,

You could -try- right clicking on the corrupt icon, then right clicking on on Microsoft Word 2010 and click properties, then try changing the icon?

Im not sure if that will work but might be worth a try.
