822044 2009-10-19 19:11:00 Welcome to PressF1. :) You are not going to get much useful help buying a Mac from here I'm sorry to say, it's PCWorld not MacWorld and 90% of us will try and convince you to get a Windows notebook. I for one think that Macs are far overpriced and far too restrictive. They have their uses, but it all depends on what you want your notebook for. What would you be doing on it?

You really want a notebook with at least 2GB of RAM and a > 1.8GHz dual core processor these days, any less will not be nice to use. I know a few people running Windows 7 on their MacBook Pro and it's great, however it's kinda pointless unless you want the Mac as a fashion accessory.

I'd recommend something like this.

...or this if you want a smaller one.

822045 2009-10-19 20:02:00 Hey I will help love macs. What are you going to be using it for? One thing I agree with wratterus is that you need 2gb my mate is running a macbook with 1gb and he upgraded it and it went so much faster nedkelly (9059)
822046 2009-10-19 20:09:00 If you:
-don't know much about computers
-will never play games
-will not be using the notebook to play movies on a large tv
-can afford it

I'd too suggest a macbook. Even though I'm a 'PC' person...

822047 2009-10-19 20:36:00 hey utopian201 a macbook can handle playing movies through a tv. Im doing it with the mac laptop 2 models before macbooks came out. If webster wants to play some games he could run parallels on it. My mate is and he never thought he would be able to. nedkelly (9059)

Die? How? What are it's symptoms? Be sure of that before running out and spending money you may not need to .

Also you have a Windows laptop - are you sure you want to learn a new O/S? If so, go ahead (and you're sure the current laptop is beyond fixing) . If not then buy an ASUS laptop instead .

do you have a budget in mind?
that would be a good starting point

for the same price or much less than a mac you can get a decent specced windows laptop

Going from Windows to a Mac is about as difficult as driving a different make of car. Many people use both and don't have any problems.

But how do you output to the TV? Macbooks don't come with HDMI output .

I think this is a common misconception . I remember reading a comparison between Dell and Apple and they were quite similar .

A mac is a mac is a mac . But with a pc notebook, you have more options for customisation .
