698445 2008-08-19 02:22:00 If you have an OS, why would you want Vista/XP?

;) ;) Because Splastop - the name of the Linux that boots has very limited operations /functions - here is its range (www.splashtop.com) - if all you did was browse the internet, didn't want to add in any programs etc then it may be fine - its a sales gimmick that's all.

From the FAQ on the site
6. Can I boot Windows in the background while I’m using Splashtop?
Currently Splashtop runs separately from your primary operating system. You’ll have to exit Splashtop in order to launch your operating system. The same is true in reverse as well – you will have to exit your operating system (and restart your computer) in order to open Splashtop.

"As long as it sells soap - -"

(However in my anti-fan-boy hat, I wished to imply that Vista/XP is no substitute for an OS) ;)

698447 2008-08-19 02:41:00 What I could see it being good for is if you used online apps, and were traveling you wouldn't need to wait around for a full system to load. wainuitech (129)
698448 2008-08-19 03:25:00 I would hope the OS would carry on loading in the background - not much point if it starts quick but you don't have access to your data

Very true. Can't see much advantage if you don't have the use of your data as quickly as the net.

It does seem, as Wainui and R2x1 have said - if it sells soap. Not certain that I would have bought a cake of their soap, though. I don't mind if my PC takes a minute or two to boot. It may not have the lovely perfume but it still does the job.

And I am the first to admit that a good clean boot is just what Winderz deserves. ;)

698450 2008-08-19 05:18:00 The makers of the Asus Eee Box claim that their Eee Box will boot and be online in seven seconds using Asus Express Gate.

It is powered by the new Intel Atom Processor running at 1.6 Ghz, 1 Ghz on board ram and 80 Ghz HD.

The manufacturers claim that it can boot and be online in seven seconds but independent tests show more like fifteen seconds. Still very impressive and a damn sight faster than most.

You're right, I did see it on BBC.

And, you're right again, I am an early bird, but not that early! "Click" is a programme that has been running for many years and I have been recording same for many years. Always find it interesting.

But what were you doing up at that hour? Hope she didn't kick you out.
