697006 2008-08-13 22:18:00 That's a hard one.

Probably USA, at the moment, but it's likely the Russians are plotting all kids of things, its just not publicised.

I'm gonna go with USA.

Edit - meh, it's not a private poll. That post was a waste of time.
We have all the time in the world Ratii,so go ahead and waste it.

697008 2008-08-14 00:42:00 True, I missed the both are evil and neither are evil options.

And no posts are wasted, I'm interested in peoples reasoning as much as their views.

Are either worse then China?, or is China the least evil of the three super powers?

697009 2008-08-14 00:44:00 I think, given time (50 - 100 years), China will be very nasty, and possibly be in bed with Russia, either Russia or China will come over and rape the middle east.

The US has been partly funding the building of a massive superhighway from north west China, right through towards Iran. It hardly gets used at the moment, seems it would be a very good method of moving large amounts of weaponry and troops quickly toward the middle east.

I think it cut the journey across China from two weeks to around 100 hours.

Speculation. :D

697010 2008-08-14 00:56:00 I think the modern perception of China is way off, China was THE Superpower for 2000 years, Only being surpassed by Europe a couple hundred years ago (industrialisation), and the USA 100 years ago (WAR).

She's pushing hard to take back her mantle, without having to invade small countries on the opposite side of the world, or meddle in their politics.

I think you are underestimating things a tad here - China is already doing some nasty stuff: pollution, human rights, Tibet (also covered under human rights).

There's truth in the saying: "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely" - this is evidenced all around the world, and not just in the countries considered "superpowers"...

Although I also like the variant: "Power corrupts, and absolute power is even better" :D

697013 2008-08-14 01:22:00 Cicero makes a good point - where would you prefer to live? Despite our cynicism about the USA, it is a free and open democracy. Yes, Americans don't know much about the rest of the world but they are generous decent people.

Not that Russians and Chinese aren't decent either, but politically and environmentally, these places aren't pleasant.

Ask yourselves this - if the US is such a terrible ogre, hated by all - why are millions of people trying to immigrate there? Does Iran have this problem? Russia? China?

Incidentally, the recent conflict in Georgia was caused by Georgia which gambled Russia would not interfere. I'm not particularly worried about Russia.

697014 2008-08-14 02:57:00 001 is right there,Mr. Saakashvili made a wrong move and I suspect he may pay the price.

Attitudes to Bush are similar to Microsoft, endless criticism, but everybody wants it.

We need to think more than one move ahead.

697015 2008-08-14 04:39:00 I agree with Cicero, the USA is way more benign once they've invaded your country. However, I think it's probably no easier being on the sharp end of the venality of their foreign policy than it is anyone else's during the inital invasion stage. annie (6010)
