821925 2009-10-19 05:12:00 Hey, about 6 months ago I put important files onto a USB stick in order to do a fresh reinistall of windows. This was because of the amount of threats like adware malwares spyware maby some viruses and worms that had on the computer.

Now To day I put that USB stick into another computer because I urgently needed to transfer some files .
There is still the files that I backed up from the infected computer.
I only had the stick in for 2 mins, would it be possible that some of those treats 6 months ago have gone onto the USB stick and now 6 months earlier when putting it into another PC they have gone on to that PC?
I have scaned the USB stick with Avast! and nothing harmful was found.
Also scanned the whole PC and nothing found.
Should I be worried?

Also any free software that I should use that any of you can recomend?
I have Avast! free edition and Ad-Aware free edition.

Thanks.

821926 2009-10-19 05:23:00 If the USB drive had infections, two minutes is plenty of time to infect a PC, Depending on what they were - try a few seconds.

Avast isn't bad, but there are better. If you are worried, you can always scan with Malwarebytes or Spybot S&D - links in my sig.

Ad-Aware, last time I used it wasn't that good, the two mentioned previously do a good job.

821927 2009-10-19 05:27:00 And MSE should pick them up too (scan flash drives). There's a patch on the MS site, to block USB flash drives from loading as well. Except U3 ones I think, since its meant to load a menu Speedy Gonzales (78)
821928 2009-10-19 05:45:00 The USB only had some music and all work documents/ pics.

So if no software pick anything up on the PC im safe? And if no software picks up any treats on the USB im safe?
How common is it for viruses and stuff to go on USBS with a heavily infected PC? Like could you have 100 viruses and others and now will go onto the USB.

821929 2009-10-19 05:52:00 Unless its got an autorun.inf file on it (and you didnt put it there), and you've scanned it, it should be pretty safe. And obviously if it wasnt infected before it wont be now Speedy Gonzales (78)
