Unfortunately when the consumer has had the idea that a product will not live up to expectations from word of mouth, then it is almost impossible to change their minds about it.

It's kind of like a placebo. With the talk that Vista is rubbish and people accepting that idea without even trying it then that idea will be forever cemented in their minds. They could sit at a Vista machine and try to use it, everything will go swimmingly and they would still convince themselves that Vista is rubbish.

Americans seem to be more acceptable to it than others. (That's what the market shows).

I wouldn't hesitate to run a business on Vista. I'm running 64bit Home Premium and i love it. No problems. In fact, i do run some business on it. I'm a Graphic Designer and have no issues creating work on my Vista machine when i have freelance projects.

698884 2008-08-20 23:04:00 Vista was a dog on my old computer ... Not a lot of drivers written for older systems. Not really M$ fault

Vista is a dream on my new computer... Designed for Vista, I have upgraded to SP1. Everthing works spot on.

698885 2008-08-20 23:49:00 From reports I am getting SP 1 has turned vista into an acceptable OS.

Joe, never believe figures from anyone trying to sell you something. The best, most popular, is always the one they want to sell you.

698886 2008-08-21 00:09:00 One thing that drives me up the wall is the common argument of "Vista is so sluggish, it is sooo slow", yeah, that's because you want to continue to operate Vista on your machine that as 1.7Ghz Celron with 512MB of DDR266 RAM. You don't drive a Landrover on Space Savers.

It's the advancement of technology, you have to move with it or you get left behind.

698887 2008-08-21 00:22:00 Well from my experience of Vista on a new desktop machine and two new laptops I would say this report that Joe has posted is pretty spot on . One of the laptops belonged to a friend of mine at work, and he found it so slow he returned it and got one with XP on it . The desktop belonged to a friend of mine - it had been purchased for him by his employer . It was no end of trouble, with BSOD's every time it was upated and sometimes on being restarted . It was both slow and flaky . Also since upgraded to XP .

On the other hand some users have found it good, especially on high end hardware . Thing is, many people cannot afford and do not need such hardware .
I am happy with XP, it does all I need and its fast on my machine which would be easily Vista capable if I wanted, but I prefer the 20 econd bootup I'm getting with XP now :-)

It is not even so much "top end hardware" It needs memory like a desert needs water .

I see Hardley Normal (from memory) are now flogging off low end stuff, but wit 2GB memory . Hope they continue

You can't expect that scenario to be taken as credible proof that Vista is a failure?

People buy $899 Acers with 1GB of RAM that has Vista on and complain that Vista is the cause of the problem . People feel insulted and offended that their idea of a sub $1000 laptop is a waste of time and money .

It's impossible to educate the general public on how much money they need to spend to get a decent laptop because they are ignorant and want the cheapest possible solution but also expect it to work like a high performance machine .

If the general department store in NZ pushed $1500 laptops/desktops that had a minimum of 2GB of RAM then you would find less and less people crying and dribbling about Vistas so called problems .

I can 100% prove that Vista problems are related to cheap ****ty sub $1000 laptops . I have done my research with focus groups and testers .
