822783 2009-10-21 21:47:00 Has anyone been to a site and then it redirects to a page which looks like a Windows Explorer window and aparently starts to scan your computer for viruses? My com. did this and so i quickly killed the page with task manager (because you cant close the window) but then i scannned my computer with spybot and sophos and i got trojans and spyware creeping over my PC? Is it not ironic that an antivirus program is a virus... :waughh: evrypc (15296)
822784 2009-10-21 22:35:00 Its probably fake / rogue software. Which installs on your system, displays warnings that youre infected (when youre not). Then tells you to pay for it, (when it fact, even paying for it, wont remove it). Its similar to what you call Scareware (en.wikipedia.org) Speedy Gonzales (78)
822785 2009-10-21 23:19:00 Well, yeah but it didnt actually get to install itself. I saw what happend when you let it install because my friend was nice enough to let it install. It pops up all sorts of ads for stuff scans your computer 24/7 and tells you youre infected with a whole bunch of rubbish. So yes speedy youre right! evrypc (15296)
822786 2009-10-22 02:15:00 Yes, this quite common.

Can happen in any browser, but happens rarer in firefox than IE IMO

822789 2009-10-22 02:44:00 Fair enough, but these sites occur often and you dont get any warning of it. evrypc (15296)

Depending on the type of website, a pop up blocker, antivirus or your browser.
