822593 2009-10-21 00:58:00 Hi Team

Twelve months have rolled around since initial installation and the Avast pop-up is now nagging me about expiry. Each time I select the 'thanks, but I'll stick with the free version' option, it goes away but returns after 2-3 days or sometimes less.

So, what exactly is it expecting me to do to shut it up? Today I re-entered the registration key to see if that would do it, and it acknowledged that I had done this, but tomorrow is another day and I'm not confident that it's fixed.

I had to install Avast on my son's laptop a few months back and used a key that I previously installed on another computer and it accepted the double use without arguing so I'm not sure what it is all about. Previously used validation key usually provoke a hissy-fit if you try them again on another box.

Cheers

You won't regret it :)

Wouldn't bother with the paid version of Avast - if you're going to pay for an AV get NOD32 it's far better than Avast.

Thank you for that advice CYaBro.

I wonder why they don't actually tell you that in the alert then, or provide the link? To be fair, I thought that agreeing to continue with the free version would take me to a re-registration page, so maybe I have missed something.

Re purchasing the paid version, I never stray from the paths of righteousness when surfing (well, hardly ever :xmouth:) so in the 15 years or so that I've been on line I've never had a virus infection or any malware problem, in fact the recent burst of three alerts for virus issues in spam email was a once in 10 years event so the free version of Avast seems quite adequate for my needs.

Cheers

There is some tiny text down the bottom of the window somewhere. They want you to think the only way forward is to buy the full version. ;)
