| 700622 | 2008-08-29 08:55:00 | All loyalty schemes are designed to sucker the punter into buying at less than best advantage, by giving preference to the provider of the loyalty card or their allied companies, rather than shopping round for the best deal; or running a credit card at higher cost than necessary, just to gain points that are hard to use, or represent poor value for the outlay involved. Airline frequent flyer points are a prime example, unless someone else like the boss is providing the points earning travel, or the linked credit card, they are not worth the hassle. The best value for money flights with the provider airline don't qualify for points, and who in their right mind is going to pay more for a seat than necessary just to earn a few hard to use points. QANTAS Frequent Flyer points are so bloody difficult to use, unless one takes advantage of their new any seat at maxi cost in points scheme. It seems fair until you find out how many points are necessary in comparison to the normal rules, that few will ever accumulate enough points to go anywhere. I received an e-mail from QANTAS advising me that I had more than enough points to take a break in LA, and it invited me to make a booking on line - Well, why not take them up on their offer. First outbound flight from Auckland was some 4 months in the future - OK worth a punt, then the snag, first available return flight was over 3 months after the outbound, and was LA to Auckland via Melbourne. The answer is simple - don't participate in any of these tied reward schemes if your buying is not to best advantage. |

| 700625 | 2008-08-29 09:12:00 | Yeah, but I only used the Shell for the gas bottle (which I sold) and Woolworths is overpriced. Example... The Schweppes 1.5l lemonade at Woolies for $2.10, same at Countdown for $0.79. Having said that, Countdown now uses the Onecard too. Doh, what was my arguement again? :waughh: |

| 700629 | 2008-08-29 20:08:00 | They just wrote to me saying that the reason it takes ten days to get a voucher out is that I may be in a rural delivery area (I am not) , there may be postal delays, (dur) or that Neal Leamingtons may be out of stock of the item (the item I wanted is a rice cooker and they seem to have them in stock when I visit). So their excuses are lame ! 2 large packs of tissues on way,let me know when used, you obviously cry a lot. |

But if it is something you want and you are in the area then its OK. But If you saw a product on special somewhere else with no Flybuys then you are better off buying it there. And yes you have to get rewards before your points fall off. If you are a company and can put a lot through your Flybuys card or a large family it can work well. But if you are a single person or pensioners who do not drive or eat or drink much then it will be a struggle and not worth it. I am moving into the latter area, so just get a small reward about once a year. I buy my groceries just up the road at New World which are cheaper than Countdown/Woolworths anyway. |
