823137 2009-11-03 18:09:00 Could Windows be attempting to quietly and unsuccessfully download updates in the background? Paul.Cov (425)
823138 2009-11-04 00:02:00 I may have solved the problem, fingers crossed. I did some deeper investigation and found a few suspect programs, which I have removed.

I removed the telecom help assistant that is run by motive communications.

I also removed itunes and bonjour service run by apple, these appeared after I did an update to quick time player.

I also found a folder in my program files by wild tangent, which I deleted as well.

Do you reckon my problem would have been caused by any of the above progams?

Thanks

823139 2009-11-04 04:11:00 All of those programs would probably check for updates etc but I doubt they would download that much data Agent_24 (57)

823141 2009-11-04 19:27:00 Well, you still can't rule it out either though.

Just have to wait and see if the usage drops from now on I suspect.

Did you ever try NetMeter to see if it could pick up anything going on?

en.wikipedia.org Looking at this though, it might be more suspect than the others...

823142 2009-11-04 20:48:00 Im with Agent_24, grab NetMeter and see what it reports ... Chilling_Silence (9)
823143 2009-11-04 22:25:00 NetMeter is good when I was using it. You can set the limit to what you can use and once you get near to using the limit for the month then it gives you a warning that you may exceed your limit. NetMeter doesn't stop you from using the internet once you have reached the limit. and you can also set the date for when it will reset the limit to what ever size you say. convair (13650)
823144 2009-11-05 01:36:00 Thanks guys for all your support.

I did try netmeter, but in all the confusion of trying to sort out this headache, I must have removed it. I will install it again and see what happens.

Since I have removed the programs that I thought were suspect, my upload usage has dropped right down to zero per day.

Im still monitoring my daily download usage as this has not stabilized yet due to having to download new antivirus and quick time player.
