823367 2009-10-24 03:11:00 Thomas if was going to spend the time creating a database it would be a relational access db, that's where my existing knowledge is and that's the software we've got. Works is a tad old.

Yes I've often wondered about this. I have (in the old days) used what was called "look up" databases - they were relational - but I find that most cases only require what I think of as an extremely efficient card file system.
I agree MSWorks is a tad old - so am I - but unlike me MSWorks is screamingly fast, particularly the old versions before microsoft thought up the "library" idea.
I do get some fun when I waffle on in computer shops about the advantages of MSWorks - they stand there dumbfounded when I do spend about 30 - 40 seconds and have produced a really good database - one technician reckoned I had done is seconds what would take him hours in Office. Then I would be twice his speed putting in the information.
I don't think I will convince you Stormdragon - you are happier and more relaxed working in what you know - so are we all.
But perhaps some readers may just wonder what I mean and try MSWorks to see.
They may have a very pleasant surprise.

823368 2009-10-24 03:11:00 Thanks Erayd but budget is rather limited.

EDIT: Thomas I haven't really used works, I'm still young and have grown up in the Office generation. Creating the actual barebones tables for an access db wouldn't take me that long, but then I'd put in drop boxes, input masks and validation rules, followed by creating a whole nice interface so others could actually use it after me with ease.
