822576 2009-10-22 06:15:00 +1 for blam6's thoughts, considering the majority of home users have a broadband sync speed of <8mbps, you can still do HD movies and browse the 'net, without any issues on 54g.

If somebody actually wants speed for large file-sharing, run cables, and use gigabit LAN.

822577 2009-10-22 20:57:00 Why? Wireless G is perfect for home usage, unless you do a huge amount of file sharing..

I'm sure something similar was said about 10mbit coaxial when 100mbit came out...

822578 2009-10-23 02:22:00 Yet 10m/bit is still far more than sufficient for the better majority of home users who simply use WiFi. Lets face it, rarely do home users actually get the full 54mbps advertised by 802.11g due to interference from other things such as walls, cordless phones, or there's simply not enough power going to a tiny 2db antenna. Honestly! Chilling_Silence (9)
822579 2009-10-23 02:38:00 It's funny because it's true. How many of you have 10Mbit internet?

All file transfers aside, if you were just using the internet, it wouldn't matter in the slightest

822580 2009-10-23 03:05:00 I often watch video files/movies etc which are stored on a different computer. I'd say if you had a computer which had all your music/movies etc, you would probably want that on the fastest network speed possible. Not necessarily so you could copy it to your local computer first, but so you could just stream it off the network. utopian201 (6245)
822581 2009-10-23 05:22:00 So do I, and I don't think 10Mbit cables or 54Mbit WiFi would be good in that situation.

I'd want (and use) 100Mbit Ethernet

Well thats just you;)

Home users rarely stream video from other PCs/Servers from my experience...

Obviously, in that case you should be using Wired over wireless...

Even so, I've streamed plenty of Non-HD video over wireless G and its been fine, and very stable(with an extra repeater)

822583 2009-10-23 11:42:00 Even HD movies are just find over 802.11g!!

How many of you know the actual bitrate of an average XviD movie file? What about a High-Def h.264 video file?
Sure, you may not be able to do HD over a 10m/bit connection, but you can certainly stream a regular XviD Video across it without a worry ;)

822584 2009-10-23 21:21:00 Does anyone else find this user name offensive. When you have lost someone to this disease you do not want to see some jerk using it as a nick. DeSade (984)
