Well, I don't know, however, I would trust my life to you guys and PcTek with anything Windows related. I am just stating that I don't have any probs with Skype on my Mac. I also have a PC running Windows VISTA and have the greatest respect for all your opinions and help that you have given to me over the past year. ;)

822505 2009-10-21 17:50:00 I use 2Talk a lot for making phone calls - the call quality is excellent, and the price is cheap ($0.03/min to NZ landlines, $0.25 to NZ mobiles). My experiences with SkypeOut were quite bad - firstly, it's impossible to get hold of tech support when something goes wrong, such as a topup voucher not working, and secondly, the audio quality was terrible compared to 2Talk. somebody (208)
822506 2009-10-21 19:15:00 Hi pctek
If one wants to have video as well as voice contact do you think Google Talk (which you mention) is a good alternative please ?

I want to put my 86 year old mother in NZ in contact with her sister in the UK by taking my laptop over to her rest home.

The reviews available for Google talk seem all to be from 2005 and 2007.

822507 2009-10-21 21:15:00 GoogleTalk is good for PC-to-PC, built on XMPP, I'm a bit of a fan :D
Why not just use something like 2talk to do it though? You can still use 2talks services overseas, so calls to back home are only 3c per-min ..

822508 2009-10-21 21:45:00 I'm with pctek on this one, skype is evil, I hate it.

I refuse to use/install it.

Has anyone tried Ekiga Softphone?

822509 2009-10-21 22:34:00 I have ekiga set up to use voipcheap as my SIP and it is by far the best set up you could ask for;Free calls to almost any landline in the world and very low cost to cellphones in most countries.First off you need a voipcheap account and if you have windows you are
away.If you use linux and have no windows then it is a bit more complicated.

822510 2009-10-22 06:18:00 Yes, I've used Ekiga a little with the VoIP PBX we have. Worked a treat for video calling :) Chilling_Silence (9)

??

2talk *do* commercial packages?

Unfortunately however from time to time you do have to call the vendor when the issue isn't at your end, and sometimes it's not the nicest to have to ring their support line for one reason or another.

What specifically should we be Googl'ing?
