700407 2008-08-26 00:50:00 Excuse my spelling if I got it wrong there.

Now, people are all raving about freeview.....I even see in the current PC World (Sept) edition an article on the Sony Bravia with it build it. Great....good idea. BUT...

This service sucks....I have to be honest, for a service that has cost people maybe $300, yes, one off, but still $300 for a box.

Now we don't have an HD TV, but get all the normal freeview stuff, and the picture stops about once every 30 mins, briefly, but annoying, and the programs it shows when changing channels is almost always wrong until you turn the box off and back on again.

Anyone else experienced any problem with freeview? Oh and we live in Forrest Hill in Auckland, so not the middle of nowhere either.

700408 2008-08-26 00:54:00 Are you on UHF or satellite?

Have you contacted the freeview installer about this? It's not a problem with the freeview service, something at your end is cocked up.

$300 is excellent value, have you priced up an analogue aerial installation recently?

700409 2008-08-26 01:11:00 Hmmm you think? We have sky so we have the dish on the roof, did all the installation at home by ourselves....is it possible that because there is also a DVD player, DVD HDD, and sky box that there is too much going on? MEC (13672)
700410 2008-08-26 01:14:00 It's possible yeah, although the issue could be something else too. I would contact a proper freeview installer and see what they say about it.

So you're using the Sky Dish for both Sky and Freeview?

Also it may be the STB that's at fault, look for a firmware upgrade, or take it to where you purchased it and ask for another to test. What STB did you get?

700411 2008-08-26 18:07:00 Nothing wrong with the service. Most likely your dish/lnbf receiver needs adjusting. apsattv (7406)

700413 2008-08-27 07:30:00 I bought a freeview decoder from the the big red shed for $230 DSE no now sell the same model i got for $180 a week after i bought it. The pictures clarity on freeview via satellite is way better and clearer then sky any day,I have an HD TV and freeview just blows sky away ok so freeview dont have many channels yet but they are coming and the pics are great. As for your set top box problem go to the menu on screen and choose manual update and see if that works other wise it sounds like you have cocked up at your end. Hitech (9024)
700414 2008-08-27 19:10:00 My first Hills decoder was faulty, a bit like you describe. I rang Hills and they couriered one to ne the next day, with a return courier bag included. No problem since.
Picture quality on the sattelite service blows Sky away. I also have the terrestrial service on my second HD TV in the lounge. Fantastic HD stuff.

700416 2008-08-27 21:00:00 It will be interesting to see what channels are launched later on this year on freeview satellite and those on freeview HD terrestrial. Anyone know if we are going to get a sports channel similar to skys. Hitech (9024)
