| 699816 | 2008-08-23 10:46:00 | Hi, I am just looking at renting near my workplace in Wellington I would like to be with Telstraclear since that can be faster and actually what I pay for . FYI, I am with Xnet now in the suburbs (without Telstra availability) I only got 2Mbit which I downgraded to a 256k plan . Anyway, if it's a city apartment, the wiring may not be already done to each of the apartment units . So do I pay wiring charges or are they more than normal residence wiring or . . . :confused: The other question is that in the city, is Woosh reliable? Thanks . |

| 699817 | 2008-08-23 21:03:00 | Often apartment management companies won't allow you to have wiring done into the premises, but it's worth checking out with the landlord to see if it's an option. My understand Telstraclear don't usually charge for wiring, for a "normal" house, but I don't know if that applies to apartments. Stay away from Woosh - it's not even worth considering. I used a Woosh connection in Wellington in 2006, with the antenna on a window with line-of-sight to the nearest transmission tower in the CBD, and it was still unreliable and slow. |

| 699819 | 2008-08-24 02:37:00 | TelstraClear does have a cable network through the CBD, so it may well be an option, but if your building isn't already wired for it you may have to pay. Alternatively, noting it's an apartment block, there may be a citylink feed to the building (generally this means fibre to the building, and copper ethernet between floors) - if so, this is worth looking into as it's the best connection you can get. It will probably cost you more though. Don't even consider Woosh, they're beyond useless. |
