822743 2009-10-21 20:37:00 Welcome to PressF1. :)

Onboard graphics are no good at all for gaming.

What's the specs of the rest of your PC? You've just listed the motherboard, how much RAM and what speed, what processor, and what power supply are also important, especially power supply for a gaming PC, as new graphics cards need a grunty power supply behind them.

That board is also old (ish) tech and not really that great value for money. You are much better off going for an Intel build if you are building a gaming PC from scratch.

If you do want an AMD board and you're going to throw that much money at it, you'd be much better off with something like this (AM3 and DDR3 RAM)

Do you plan on doing a build from scratch of you already have a PC you're upgrading?

You'll want a graphics card.

What sort of games are you looking at playing and at what resolution will you be running them?

What's the specs of the rest of the system?

822745 2009-10-21 20:39:00 Depends what games you want to play.

The integrated graphics will run older games like Counter Strike no problems, but if you want to play more recent games like Crysis etc you will need a dedicated, faster graphics card...

)

Hell no. Never.

www.tomshardware.com

Take a look at the VGA charts, ranking according to best to worst. INtegrated doesn't even rank.

The 4850 has dropped to almost free, and 4890's are as cheap as dirt. It would do. However, it does depend on the games. FPSs etc - get the best card you can afford.

822747 2009-10-21 22:52:00 Ok I can see I don’t know what I’m on talking. Can any of u give me a list of components that would make a decent gaming computer for around 2500-3000 NZ dollars jlanauze (15365)
822748 2009-10-21 22:55:00 Certainly.

ComputerLounge is excellent. Sounds to me like having a pre-built PC delivered to you might be the best option. :)

I've never asked them before, but if they would change the motherboard and graphics card in those PCs to either an Asus or Gigabyte branded one that would make things better, those two brands are best.

If you went for that cheaper option you could grab a 22" monitor and a nice logitech keyboard and mouse and the whole thing would come to around $2950

822749 2009-10-21 23:08:00 If you want to do it yourself then you could upgrade MoBo/RAM/CPU in one fell swoop using ComputerLounge's combo feature. This would be hard to beat:

Extreme Asus Maximus III + Supertalent Memory Kit + Intel i7 860 CPU -$1199

Then all you need it a power supply that will handle it and a suitably powerful graphics card. What size/resolution is your monitor? ie: Mine is 22"/1680*1050. There's no point spending bazillions of dollars on an amazing graphics card if your monitor isn't going to tax it.

If I were to get a new graphics card at the moment I'd seriously think about getting one of the new 5850's. $550 on ComputerLounge and it's one of the fastest single cards on the market at the moment. If you want to spend more a 5870 is $729.

Go for a good brand PSU. A good 500W should do you, but 620W would give you some headroom. Ascent are doing 1500GB Seagates today only for $199, so I'd throw one of them in for good measure.

I'm sure I'll be "corrected" in a bit, but that's where I'd put my money if I was in for it today.

You'll want an OK size case if you don't have one that you're already happy with. Don't spend too much money on one though, that's one of my regrets. Antec 300 for around $155 should do most systems easily. If you want more the 900 is $220.

822750 2009-10-21 23:21:00 thanks jlanauze (15365)
822751 2009-10-21 23:27:00 Intergrated= No, no and no. Youll want a dedicated card maybe nvidia or something that will play frame rates good and be able to display a decent resolution on youre computer. 512mb ram +. Have a look on trademe (www.trademe.co.nz) or a computer shop. If you want to buy a new computer look out for the raphics card in it.
Hope this helps! :)
