2018-01-24 06:16:00 | I have been starting to look for a new laptops and I have noticed a lot of them (especially Acer laptops), Don't have a hard drive light, on ether the front of on the side of them. Has anyone else found this? If the laptop does not have a hard drive light, how do you know what's going on with the hard drive??

2018-01-25 23:00:00 | Why does a hard drive need a light to know what's going on Doesn't the whirring and buzzing indicate it's working? I may have missed the point, but hanging around to see if I learn something. The amount of sh1t I've learnt on here by sticking my oar in other people's business and asking dumb questions is significant!

Not with a solid state drive which any modern laptop is likely to have. |

2018-01-26 04:18:00 | So how does a light help with a SSD? Exactly the same as any HD. It is useful to be able to tell if there is any activity or not.

2018-01-26 04:26:00 | So how does a light help with a SSD? It alerts you to the fact the light works. ;)

2018-01-26 05:18:00 | The point Clive was making was that SSDs are silent, so no whirring and buzzing. | KarameaDave (15222) | |
