I've read a few stories lately that predict it won't last much longer, we shall see. Bitcoins only have value because enough people decided they do, that could change overnight.

I had a crack at litecoin a while back and almost broke even, there's a narrow window of opportunity for home miners on most coins and I missed it.
It is a crazy scheme in hindsight, basically it turns electricity into currency at an ever increasing difficulty while not actually producing anything.
