1444673 2018-01-09 21:17:00 I just stupidly allowed Skype to update to version 8.13.0.2 and now there is no Webcam to be found by Skype.

The Webcam is connected and working fine using QTCam on Linux Mint, but Skype can no longer see it. Was fine prior to update.

And just as a bonus, SWMBO is screaming that her Win 10 Laptop has just updated and her contact list has expanded with dozens of people she has never heard of. I’ll wait until the screaming stops on that one. :D

Any suggestions???

1444674 2018-01-09 22:04:00 "Skype does not currently support Linux Mint. The new Skype on Desktop, Mac and Linux version 8.13 is available for download on the following Linux distributions.

Linux 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04+
Debian 8.0+
OpenSUSE 13.3+
Fedora Linux 24+"

That is from the ever helpful folk at Microsoft, who own SKYPE

can you roll your system back to before the update, I seem to recall you installing some program to do that?

Can't help with your Win 10 contacts issue, maybe delete the unwanted ones?

1444675 2018-01-09 22:26:00 Thanks for that Dave.

Yes I got suckered because it came through as a Trusted Mint Update.

Yep, I’ll roll back and let you know how I get on.

1444676 2018-01-09 23:57:00 Rolled back to my last Restore Point (using Systemback) and back to version 8.11.0.4 and working fine again. :)

Can't even run Linux without Microsoft stuffing something.

1444677 2018-01-10 00:08:00 Yep, they are real bottlers.
At least you could roll back and it's working.

By the way
Be careful with the latest Linux Kernel Upgrade that Mint are rolling out
(It is to fix the Intel vulnerabilities, I think)
It wouldn't work here, I had to boot to the previous kernel and remove the new one today.

1444678 2018-01-10 01:05:00 Thanks for the heads up B.M.

I'm running Linux Mint KDE 18.2 on my laptop and didn't update Skype just now after reading this thread. I've now locked my version at 8.11.04 for the time being. If it ain't broke (I'm quite happy with Skype just now) don't fix it.

1444679 2018-01-10 01:21:00 Thanks for the Heads up on the Kernel issue Dave. From what I’ve read it seems a lot of the cures are worse than the disease.

Meantime, in the next room, Mother Superior has lost her Hotmail Account, to go along with her Skype.

Seems they’re tied together somehow and Microsoft have yet another problem.

Haven’t devoted much time to it, but it looks like her Hotmail Account has somehow buggered up her Skype, even though it was a Skype Update, which might account for why she has all these New Contacts.

Frankly, I don’t know where to start, because the way I see it the whole problem belongs to Microsoft?????????

I’m seriously thinking of opening the Bar. :D

I'd happily join you, but alas, the tyranny of distance.:D

1444681 2018-01-10 02:44:00 You may find the extra contacts with in skype are because of the way the settings are.

Had that happen a while back on my Android phone, fired up skype and bloody hell who are all these people ???? Some I knew from other groups, some were Hmmmmmmmm -- spent the next week deleting contacts ;).

The following article may explain it better. BTW--outlook.com IS Hotmail, they are all tied together these days.

Well, when you can’t treat something seriously, treat it as a joke, is the old adage, and honestly these guys at Microsoft are making complete DICK’s of themselves .

This Crap we are not even in a position to fix!

What the Hell are they smoking?????

Surely, even some of you Microsoft Missionary’s are loosing patience?
